As a result of these snowy owls moving much further south than usual this winter we were able to see this one at a marsh/dune/beach area less than 8 miles from home.
Starting on Jan 8th sightings of one or more snowy owls in the area we visited were being reported. This owl stayed on the ground on our first visit, but favored higher elevations, such as a tree and an empty osprey nest, on our second visit. From the markings it appears to have been the same owl both days.
I used Robert's 100-400 lens with my 7D for maximum magnification.
