I know -- I didn't do a very good job on it, but I really did try. I just couldn't get the tones to work out.
Tanguera's idea of flattening with topaz is excellent, I think it would have really helped.
As far as creepy... I don't know what my mom would think about that!! :)
When I was 8, she decided to do Victorian type portraits of the 3 children. She made the dress, and did the hair. The worst part was that she used an eyebrow pencil as eyeliner on me!!! That hurt!! I remember that part, but not really standing for the picture.
The picture hung on the wall for 40 years, and has really faded over time. It's in an oval frame with curved glass, so I just took a picture of that. Here's the original:
The sad thing is that the birdcage isn't ours anymore. It's an old german type of birdcage, where the bird actually moves and tweets when you wind it up. But when my grandmother died, it ended up at auction. My mom had already stopped the auction for something that wasn't supposed to be in the sale, so she didn't think she could do it twice. :(
Thanks for the comments, even if you think I'm creepy. :)

Now that I see the other side of Wendy I'm very grateful that her bird received 1st place. In fact, give her 1st on everything, I just want her to be happy.
This seems very Victorian, if you know what I mean. The hand on the shoulder might have been done a little better, though, but good (slightly freaky) job.
Wendy, that is so cool. And a bit creepy... I feel that the current you is brighter and sharper than the original. A little flatness may have been good in this instance :)
