We have been very fortunate to have a beach/dune/marsh area within 8 or so miles that has been frequented by at least one snowy owl since early January. Since the local paper ran an article with photographs taken at this location you can tell where they are by looking for the cluster of parked cars.
This owl spent time on the ground and also on available structures like this empty osprey nest. His/her eyes were closed, or nearly closed, most of the time. This was the most open I saw them.
I don't do much bird photography in the wild, but this was such an unusual opportunity, and these birds are magnificent, so I made an exception!
Thank you for the votes and great comments. Much appreciated.

I can't harp enough on how beautiful this shot is and so perfectly framed as well. Please take me with you next time. I would be complete if I had a shot like this.
Oh Penny, this is so magnificent. I concur with all who have said it was an honor just to be able to see this bird in the wild. Congrats on the great finish.
SO close to top ten, sweetie :-( SOOO close! Congrats on top ten, sweetie! Such an awesome image. We're so lucky that owl decided to winter over here :-)
A stunningly beautiful shot. I have an appreciation of just how difficult it is to photograph birds in the wild and must commend you on this shining example of great wildlife photography. Very well done indeed and I do hope it fares well in the challenge.
