Doubters of the quality of this image should take a look at the paintings of Barnett Newman. Here we have an amalgam of Abstract Expressionism including (with Mr Newman) in particular the likes of Robert Motherwell and Clifford Still. It is hard not to see this as a retrospective distillation of a era.
Neat. I thought about this photo for several minutes. It looks like part of a road. But I find it mysterious and almost pretty, very unlike I find most roads.
