all the interesting negative space is in the left half of the picture, made by the buck's antlers, etc.

Marked down some for the animal looking out of the frame. Lesson is that animals should look into the frame.7

Details: Use the surrounding space of your subject to create the wow of the photograph.

OH! If he was only looking into the frame, and there was more room. :(

Bold reverse composition. Like me I think you tend not to photograph for the DPC masses but rather as a Wildlife photographer; only to record the beauty of the animal and the serenity of the moment. Such work provides everlasting achievement and an unforgettable sense of accomplishment, unlike set-up conveyor belt photography. I'd have voted an 8 at least. (Team TPL2 Image, sadly no vote)

Great animal, this nice details, and an interesting choice of composition. But a quick tip, remove the blue cast and this would look much nicer.
