I have to admit, I don't know the book. Only thing I know is that the story is situated on the Isle of Skye and that they sail to the lighthouse.
This lighthouse is on Skye itself, at Neist Point, you can walk to it. For some commenters reason to tell me it is not like the depiction of the lighthouse in the book.
I know, but the problem is, I live on Skye and I really don't know any lighthouse on an island nearby where you can sail to. So, maybe I have to read the book now and see if that lighthouse she describes is for real. Or just imagination.
Thanks for all your comments!

Comment Challenge: What a great lighthouse! I love the yellow of the sky and yellow highlights / tones elsewhere. For me, this wants to be a closer crop. Almost 1/3 of the picture is (basically) featureless black with the two power lines and one road running through it. The same message could have been communicated with less distance. While I love the mountains and yellow sky, for me it wants to be tighter on both sides, focusing on the lighthouse complex and the rock that it sits on.
The second Virginia Woolf's lighthouse in this challenge. To me, this is much closer to the symbolism of the novel. The trailing wires make the shot. Perhaps less saturation would have given more of the intangible feeling that I look for but the image has this burned-by-the-sun quality that is appealing also.

Yummy golden stuff, the power lines as leading lines conflict with the path for me. Gives the feeling of remoteness, some abandonment which is in the novel.6.
Clearly a main theme of the book. The warm orange tones are pleasant, the foggy haze in front of the islands gives it depth. Would like a little more story rather than just scene, but that is a minor nitpick. 7
Good shot but the point of view is not quite right since they characters approach the lighthouse from the sea. But at least there is an appropriate background from which they could be coming... The image works well as a layered land/seascape although the color seems more imaginary than real - which might be your intention. 6
Lovely light. The composition isn't stunning, but it's okay. I do like the power lines leading down out of frame, and the layers of black, blue and yellow... yes, I do like the limited palette while still being a color photo. 6
6...or maybe 7...this is growing on me as I look at it. At first the yellow seemed garish but as I let it settle in, it grows on me. I particularly like it in contrast with the deep blacks. 7
Lovely composition! Love the lighthouse up front and the background mountains disappearing into fog/mist/haze. Not such a fan of the blatant yellow though...seems a little forced to me. Wish you cloned out the powerlines too.
