This was an interesting idea, and it really has a lot of potential. I think a darker background would be better, though, and I'd experiment with the positioning of the banana to pull an eye into the photo a little bit more.
The stain on the tablecloth is very distracting. A crop allowing more negative space to the left and bottom of the banana would better show-off the banana.
I don't quite understand the connection between the red coloring of the banana and the theme of the challenge. If you can help me figure this out and understand better, I'd appreciate it.
