 A Lanner Falcon catching termites in flight on thermals off the sandstone cliffs here:

There were few birding opportunities on my recent trip to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Free State Province, South Africa. (Autumn/Fall). Those birds that I did spot were very far and very shy. Even with 420mm at my disposal (70-200mm f/2.8 and TC 1.4x on DX 1.5x) it was hard to get magazine quality shots. I will visit again in our summer when many of the migrants return and hope for some better opportunities.

What a gorgeous bird. I love the fact that the tail feathers are spread so widely it appears they are glowing from the back light.
