Dark-thirty & a very bright source of light .... What you need is a MONSTER fill flash setup or about a dozen remote flashes to fill in some detail/color on the other ballons.
I would prefer to see it centered, and more visible the upper part of baloon. It is probably difficult, since there is no much light inside and the night is really dark. Just a thought, since I would've been probably unable to make such great night shot :)
Very nice and dramatic with great warm colors against the hint of blue sky. However, something is lost because we are left more with the play of light and dark to paint an effect rather than an image because detail is not available. I would consider, my taste, to capture the flame partly covered rather than fully exposed and allowing a sheer zone 10 display. Again, the image has a moving effect because it conveys activity in the night and it is more a colorful pleasing effect to move the imagination. Bumping up one notch.
Beautiful shot, but perhaps it might have been better to show a glow of light through the ballon rather than an overexposed flame and darkness for most of the shot, but luck is a fickle thing, even to a master! good luck!
A great capture - very early in the morning. The glow from the balloon on the ground and the hint of blue in the sky are great. The other balloon silhouettes add a bit of mystery.
Tough one to capture. The bright colors of the balloon and the torch, along with the deep blue of twilight, and the dark sky above... the exposure captures all of them. Composition is balanced, and makes you wonder just how many are out there... it feels very organic.

I really like this picture, and I know it is a night picture, but it would have appealed to me a little more if you could see the whole balloon a little better. 6
must of been a fun event, i understand that the picture was a challenge in itself but if only the sky was just a bit brighter (maybe curves?) and the top of the main ballon was also either darker or brighter i would of scored it higher, so a 6 it is
impressive exposure - very difficult conditions to expose correctly. highlights are pretty sharp, and the light falloff is very smooth. i might have burned the little catchligts or reflections or whateverthe hotspots on the right are so the pic fell off into complete blackness, but that's just me. very unique entry.
I love the flame and the bottom of the balloon but the rest of the shot kind of loses me. A little tighter crop may have worked better. Good clarity of focus.
I like the night time atmosphere with all the balloon enthusiasts getting together, the warm glow in the front and the silhouettes and small lights at the back. I probably would have cropped a significant part of the top (without hurting the silhouettes) and a bit of the left, to get a bit more concentrated view.
Do they actually balloon at night? I think it would be dangerous! But what do I know? This is a nice shot but the lacke of clarity on the main subject hurts it to me. I understand longer exposures to get the light but the basket is just to fuzzy for my taste and the balloons on the right are more distracting to me. Started at a 6, am raising to a 7
This is a good idea for a shot...I like how the colors of the balloon are illuminated, but some other bright spots in the shot tend to distract... I do like the faint light in the sky coming in from behind...thanks!
Nice image. I like the way the light plays on the pattern of the hot air balloon and the ground. I am wondering how it would look if you could crop it in to get a little better image of the 2 people in the balloon.
Great contrast and impact in this low-key shot with the brightly colored orange/yellow flame and the way the light is captured and reflected by the stripes in the balloon. The silhouetted balloons in the background are really good and give depth to the picture. Good job. 8
Wonderful shot... I'd like it much more with the gamma raised and the highlights boosted so the outlines of the balloons in the background is clearer, and the sky is a little more blue. I don't feel your border works... it looks like you've accidentally left some black at the edge of the frame from PS work. Great colours, good exposure, wonderful mood. 8
This shot really impressed me. I really like how the flame lights up the balloon and immediate area on the ground. Then you move to the background and see the other flames doing the same thing, although without seeing the illuminated balloon and ground. I do see slight signs of noise in the sky. 9
night photography is so interesting to me. simple point sources of light can create such drama. I like this scene overall because it sets an interesting mood - even though I know that this was part of a "night glow" type of ballooning event, it seems like the main subjects are about to embark on a clandestine adventure. I think this feeling could have been enhanced even more had you been closer to them and filled the frame with their actions. The silouetted balloons in the background, while providing context, are too featureless to add much to the story.
The smoothness in this low-light shot is simply unbelievable. I like the colors, but wish the person and the basket were clearer, although I understand they are hardly the focal point of the shot. I can't find too much to critique on this, except for the fact that it's just not personally compelling. 8
Can feel the heat. Balloon glows are great place to shot. I like the background sky and how it seeps down the frame between the other balloons, then the stop and darkness before the reddish ground. Nice study of gradient lighting.
This is amazing- I love that there's sillouhettes of the other balloons but the lighting is so perfect on the one balloon. The colors are so calming and muted- there's such a mood, great job! 9
Very dramatic, and what great colors - smooth like butter. I'm feeling like the cropping is a bit tight in the upper left corner, but overall, what a great image!
