Juvenile ring tailed possums in my garden. We've seen them a couple of times, haven't seen mum, but we've heard her. We often get brush tailed possums (too often) but the ring tails are a bit of a novelty.
I considered this for free study, but my on camera flash gave them red eye, which I tried to correct but it's not really a professional result. (But if I'd had more stuff to fiddle with I wouldn't have got them at all. They were soon off into the depths of the shrubbery.)
Lovely capture. I do like the Ringtails and we don’t get them much around our place (though we do get many other types of possums). Thanks for sharing.
One of the most satisfying moments of wildlife photography is getting the shot despite many challenges. In so doing you have to at least be adept in using your camera under pressure. You could go to the zoo and spend hours till you get a NatGeo like image and palm it off in a challenge and even then it will be picked to death or voted down because of some flaw that could really only be corrected or anticipated in a studio environment.
You nailed it and in the dark with a relatively short zoom. Even if it was on auto and you used the popup flash. They are looking at you and their environment and their ring tails are clearly in the picture, the composition is also good considering the short time you had and remember they were in the dark when you aimed the camera. This image and moment will long live in your memory and will not fade like a zoo shot. Well done.
Fun shot. What do they do to your garden? We try to convince our possums to go elsewhere, because when they dig for grubs they tend to throw the plants all over the place. Ours don't look this interesting. Mostly just a pair of huge black eyes with a body somewhere behind.
This is just a lovely shot - wouldn't I love to have them in my garden - I just love the way they are situated on the tree - the one of our left has his little paw up as it to say I will bat you if you come any closer.
They have cute little tails too - what a lovely job you did in getting them up in that tree posed in such wonderful positions - their little bums almost touching. I just think these little guys/gals are adorable. Very nice capture!
Better you got something than nothing. How neat you have them in your garden. I only get raccoons and usually they are running away from the trash or running across the road for dear life. Anyway nice capture.
Nice one, like the way they (or at least one of them) are/is looking at you. Can see you point re the shiny red eyes, but I like the glance in the eyes, make them look more...alive.
