This is a dried up concrete bird bath. I did not do any sharpening on this image. I did use Topaz B/W on luminosity blending mode to bring out the contrast. I then used 50% Topaz Adjust Spicify on Luminosity then some Topaz DeNoise just because. Cropped and saved for web.
Thank you to all who stop by to look and leave a comment. They are very helpful :) When time permits I will go back and try the various suggestions.
Lovely texture with a 'dried mud' crackling like effect. Seed pods caught in the winds of time add a forlorn feel but with the promise of new life. Nice.
excellent texture shot. I use luminosity mode a lot too (especially b&w layers). I wonder if you tried the spicify at 25% luminosity to see how that would look?
I like the webby (not a word but you maybe get my idea) look here - at first I thought it was a dried leaf with nothing much but the veins left. I like the tones.
Interesting textures. The sharpening effect comes from the Topaz spicify which is a fairly aggressive filter even though blending in luminosity mode maintains original colour (or close to it)
The high contrast is a little hard on the eyes but I don't have any suggestions really. It certainly is an interesting texture though. I wonder if you would have framed the dried seed in the upper right and introduced more of the circular part of the bird bath into the frame. I don't know?
I like it. It's an interesting texture. I wonder...I don't think it's oversharpened at all, maybe undersharpened if anything. What would happen if you both reduced the contrast you did just a bit, then added a wee bit of sharpening? Nothing too much of either change, but just a bit..... I'm splitting hairs, you might already have it exactly right, but it's worth a try to see what you think.
This is definitely a "foreground" texture. The high contrast, which seems to be emphasized by what looks like haloing (e.g. around the pods) is a bit much for me.
An alien landscape of a planet just discovered. The dried pods create a story in my mind with the little bits of the pod being shed as the being walked away to begin life - textures create beautiful fodder for my mind to make up a story.
I agree, it does look like an animal print at frost glance. What an eye to see such beauty in the mundane. Great colors and I like the partial circle on the left. It flares out to the rest of the textures.
