welcome to the world of 'doesnt meet the challenge.' i think your image is gorgeous. as some others pointed out about focus, it could stand to be sharpened a little. all the same, you have been hammered for not having a truly backlit image. well, don't let it get you down. just pick up your camera and go shoot something!
Wonderful contrast between the desolate landscape and the sky however it appears to be front lit, not back lit. (Shadow is pointing towards the horizon)
Fantastic image. Contrast is dramatic. Colors are good. focus is off a bit, but too badly. In another challenge I would rate it an 8 - 10. But here it just barely barely meets the challenge. In fact all the light is from over your left sholder. You get a bit of light reflected off the sky, but IMO hardly backlit.
With the shadow of the tree falling behind the tree ... this appears to be front lighting rather than back lighting. Otherwise, it's an awesome shot... beautiful colors, great composition and good background drama.
Beautiful shot. Nice color, contrast, focus. But it seems as light is coming from the front... The shadow of the tree is a give away. At least it seems so to me.
What you have here is pretty much the reverse of backlighting. The background is dark, and the light is from the front. It's a nice shot of a late afternoon storm, though.
I would not consider this a backlight since it is illuminating the subject from the front. Very nice photo! I really like the dark clouds with the sunlight. Makes it dramatic.
Yeh that tree is lonely and surely in New Mexico but the light on it seems to me more in the front than in the back. The sky in the background is rather dark and the shadow of the tree is behind it.
I don't see how this is backlighting. If the light was from the back shouldn't the shadow of the tree be in front of it. Other than that I love the picture.
What a neat landscape... I won't say what other folks have probably already said, but the light would appear to be comming from the front.. 5, cause I like it. :-).
