 Elephant mini-statues, printed out background, cut a hole, pulled some grass, taped everything to background, put on top of clear table, light underneath table, turned on light, took many pictures, download to computer, adjust levels, crop, save, submit!

oh well, it was fun.
what i dont understand is photographs with lousy backlights or no creativity scoring higher.

Clever idea. You've oversharpened a little much on this (haloing on the grass stalks), and exposure was a touch too much I think.. I like what you were going for though, and the coloring in the background is almost dead on. Great effort.
