fantastic image. the contrast is perfect. and your choice of composition/crop works very well. clarity is great, and the kitty is beautiful too. :)

This is an extremely beautiful photo. I placed it onto my desktop immediately.... extremely rare. I love coming back to the detail in the fur, and my only critique is that Tycho's right eye is a tad dark. Nice work...

Mag. I really like your print with the eyes in color. Lovely pet shot.

Great shot! Animals always give you something great to work with!

Mag - This an excellent photo! So technically clean - as usual - and extremely emotional. I would've voted it a 10, had I voted.
Post actions
I think the low votes are indicative of hard-line "does not meet the challenge" opinions. Also, believe it or not, there are people that see pets not as individuals with personalities, but more as something akin to inanimate objects.

How anybody could give this a '1' I'll never figure out. Obviously there are people here who simply do not care about photographic qualities, or the fact that "cats are people too." :-) Just look at that face!!! All I can say is "great job" and this should've been number one!

How did this not come in 1st? I'll never know.

Just perfectly exposed.. I love the feeling that the cat is staring straight through my soul.. one of the best pet shots ive ever seen.

Thanks. 43 challenges entered and my first ribbon :). Now I've lost my claim to fame as being the only photog in the site favorites without a top 3.

Congrats, loved this shot. Glad to see that portrait did not just mean a human photo to a lot of the voters of this challenge.

Congrats on finally placing! :)

In general, I didn't score animal shots so well because the dictionary calls a portrait an image of a person or human. This shot is exceptional, though, and I'm giving it a 9! Well done and good luck in the challenge!

Awesome shot. The detail is absolutely fantastic. I really hope this doesn't get marked down for being non-human.

very good, the clarity is amazing -10

The unequal and bright spot in the eyes is distracting to me. KNowing how hard it is to take a picture of pets, it is otherwisw very good.

GReat shot, gave it a 9. The only thing I might change is the harsh hightlights in teh eyes. Beautiful lighting, crop, and contrast.

Great shot. Real nice use of b&W. I was hoping for the best cat shot, but you beat me big time. Good luck. Jacko 9

Nice work, good tones, focus and light. Good work, good luck.

Nice shot. I wish the catchlights were a bit smaller in each eye.

It's a shame that people will vote this down for being an animal shot. This is a stunning example of Portraiture. I give it a 9. I don't give 10's so this is as high as I go.

Now this is what I call an awesome macro shot. Very expressive for a cat. Clarity and composition is fabulous. Well done. 10

You got that right about the eyes. What colors are they. Looks like yellow and maybe blue. Am I wrong but is the right eye a little more dialated than the other? Maybe just the way the flash went off. Beautiful close up. Beautiful cat, and beautiful photo. It'd be an 8 with me. PTL
