If you have the time, try again with a real FRESH, JUICY and GLOSSY SURFACED strawberry... I like the combination of real white cream and the red . Simple but perfect!
I like the balance of colors against the white cream. The narrow DOF helps accentuate the softness of the cream. I think you could have been a little bolder with your angles and your crop. Also, the strawberry is a little smashed on the side facing the camera.
This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
While this is one of my top ten for the challenge, I think it could use a little work. It's a little too contrasty, leaving me feeling a sense of imbalance between the darker and lighter sides. I am fine with the DoF, but the lack of detail caused by the over-exposure on the left takes away from my overall impression. Maybe a little less light on the left and some slight fill on the right would have balanced it out.
