This was the best photo for this challenge, and should therefore have won, IMO. Eminently saleable, which is one of the points. Informative, well executed, thoroughly competent. Unfortunately for you, the voters seem to require something more spectacular :-)
Very nice image. Recognizable as to local. People included with activities for them. Makes me want to visit. IMHO, all those things are required for a 10 in this challenge.
Near perfect for the challenge. Ordinarily I would find it quite bland, but this challenge somehow requires an element of that, I feel. Use of foreground to balance the classic waterside city view is spot on, maintaining interest and allowing motion for the eye, without ever trapping the visiion in one place. As an illustration of a place it has both the grand sweeep and the detail, the sense of some understanding rather than the grand gesture. I would perhaps have liked a touch of graduation of light, a slightly greater sense of distance maybe, but that's looking for the ideal, and in this instance you're prettty close.
I am not sure about your choice in color editing. It definitely makes this one stand out, but I don't ever remember seeing anything edited this way in a travel magazine. Good shot.
