Challenge: Framing (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: In front of my neighbour's house
Date: Aug 31, 2004
Aperture: F/8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/50 sec
Galleries: Still Life, Floral
Date Uploaded: Aug 31, 2004

I took this just a few hours before the end of the challenge, after unsuccessfully trying a number of other ideas; this is a view through my neighbour's fence. I have a few different shots and varieties of this that I liked, and I'll probably regret picking the one I did, as I followed the advice of everyone else I asked (it was unanimous) and chose the one that's not my personal favourite. I do like the intensity of the colours and shadows, however; I probably made the right choice for the site, as the version I like is very grainy, which doesn't sit well with DPCers. I'll post it after the challenge is finished.

Editing: Resized, cropped, curves, hue/saturation, unsharp mask, sharpening, levels, Neat Image, more sharpening, more curves, more levels.

Congratulations on your 20th placing with this lovely entry which exudes sweetness, containment and lonelyness, yet the color sings out sheer joy.

Love the vivid red color of the flower, it really brings your eyes toward the subject. The lighting from the top give it a dramatic feeling. The metal fence framing the subject makes for the perfect contrast to the soft texture of the flower. "10"
