OK, yes, I know it's an Emu. the title is a line from a Barenaked Ladies song. I took a burst of about 20 consecutive shots, and hoped like hell one of them would have this nimble little critter framed by the fence. Sho nuff, there it was.
taken with the kit lens fro mthe D70, because it's currently my widest lens.
Thanks for all the comments.

If I had a million dollars I would buy that picture off you.. or a little pink dress, thats cool, or a chesterfield....
Anyone know where the Bryant Theatre is...lol
His Royal P-ness, I hereby congratulate you upon your now complete collection of purdy colored ribbons. One of each kind! Now all you need is green, purple and brown. Don't disappoint me :))
Congratulations on your ribbon. From the highlights in the bird's eyes to the details of the feathers and the use of depth of field this photo is a winner. It was the only one of my 10-rated photos that made it to the ribbons.
Most frequently I use a Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR on my D70, but for that one I was using the kit lens. It's not bad for the price, though not the sharpest lens in my bag by a long shot. That would be a Nikkor 50mm f1.8.
OK the title of this comes from the Barenaked Ladies song "If I had a Million Dollars". Listen to it and the title will then be funny. well...i twas to me anyway. who gives a crap what anyone else thinks.
What a great picture. The black and white works great with this picture, and I think the shallow depth of field is great where just the frame and the bird stand out.
I'm sure that others will vote this lower than I do - mainly because of the out of focus plant life in the background and the lack of definition on the fence wire in the foreground. Never-the-less, those eyes, those little pin feathers all around the face, the exquisite detail ... you gotta love it. And, although it has a hint of tone to it, I love black and whites - or single color and white images.
I love this photo. The depth of field where it counts, the sharpness in the subject, and the contrast are excellent and the simple frame definitely serves its purpose. Now how did you get him to pose in the thirds position, huh??? I hope this photo is tops in the challenge!
Foreground and background make sense together, great focus, love the subject, excellent sharpness, lovely composition.... This shot has it all! Well done!
Adorable! Very cute photo, and it's well composed. I like the duotone, and the framing seems to suit the subject well. My only complaint is that it looks perhaps slightly oversharpened, but that could just be the grain of the photo, which I like. Nice job!
I dont' think it can get more perfect than this. Excellent color (or lack thereof) treatment, great subject with a wonderful expression (great little grin) and wonderful composition. Very well done and perfect for this challenge!
A perfect example of a well framed shot. Congratulations on the technically perfect capture/edit. Comp, focus, DOF, lighting, color, levels ... all virtually perfect. Plus, the subject makes me smile. Thanks. (9)
I love the way the fencing here not only creates a frame (which improves the image on a compositional level) but also provides a context by communicating the bird's captive status. Black and white works very well. Catchlights in the eyes are just right. Nicely out of focus plants in background add interest but don't distract. Excellent!
What a goofy looking animal. Im glad this is in black and white, it seems better that way. I also like the way the bend in the fence sort of mirrors the llama...or emu's head.
It's an emu silly! It's also one of the best images in the challenge. The depth of field and the textures are phenomenal. I have a few shots of emu / ostrich and I also always get nearly pure black eyes. I guess they're just like that... :) 10
