Amazing drama unfurled in the skies before me while I shot this. The distant thunder was rumbling while the sun shone warmly over the bay, but the peace was ended around 10 minutes later when the storm finally hit.
Great weather for kite surfing, sand sailing and flying my parafoil kite (which nearly took me off the ground).
fantastic composition and drama. Perfect placement of sail and jetty- and the eye is led nicely up to the blue part of the sky, creatinga feeling that the sailboat is moveing away towards the left of the shot. well done.
Congratulations, this is a wonderful image! A long overdue ribbon for a talented creative photographer. Didn't you just post somewhere that you were not planning to ribbon anytime soon? Anyway, good to see recognition of fine work.
What can I say? Simply brilliant! I wouldn't have changed a bit in this photograph. You have captured a moment, and it's very inspiring. Congratulations with a well deserved yellow ribbon.
Jon, there is definitely strong sense of drama in this shot. The area where the shadow is dim is very powerful, it dares you to walk up to it to discover. Great shot congratulations.
Congrats!! I picked this as a 10! and put it on my faves list right away! Great work!
Damn! Edged you out by 0.006!!! Still my fave though! Great colors
My favourite from the challenge..if this hadn`t ribboned then I don`t think I would have bothered voting again.
I couldn`t be more delighted if I had won it myself...the first of many now I`m sure.
Delighted for you John. How about getting another one, and then winning the master's challenge having not even been able to enter when it started? So who's the best photographer with no ribbons now?
Jon, this is fantastic. You're one guy who probably should have gotten many ribbons by now. Thanks for doing what you like to do. It paid off with a ribbon this time! Congratulations!
This was one of my only 10s of this challenge. Congrats on a shot that made me stare and stare and stare... :) I love the contrasting muted colors with the white sail standing out amongst them.
Overall, I like this photo. The wooden(?) blocks in the dirt seem to draw my eye away from the sail and I don't that's what you had in mind. Remember to use leading lines to your advantage.
Beautiful image taken in the type of conditions that I have been hoping to encounter for quite some time (Bright sunlight against an inky black sky).
You have certainly made the most of this opportunity.
Very well done.
Very nice capture. Looks like a storm is coming. I really like how the sail is set in the darker part of the photo making it stand out against the dark clouds. I like the color tome of this photo and that there is a strongly defined horizon. Good luck with the challenge!!!
Wonderfully dramatic photo, excellent composition, good colours - most things about this are rather fine. Don't know that I could see it in a travel guide. Where is it? What's so distinctive about it as a location? But maybe ... so I don't mark you down.
I could be wrong, but the clouds seem a little overprocessed by a possible oversaturation of blue...I don't know what it is exactly, but something doesn't quite look right.
But let's ignore that for a sec...a nice photograph compositionally with a neat mood to it (rainy in the background, sunny in the foreground). I wish I could see more texture in the posts (?) and the sand, though.
This is an absolutely beautiful image. As a photograph for a travel guide, what is there to do? Who goes there? Where is it? I would have rated it higher except it doesn't answer any of those questions. A perfect 10, IMHO, would.
Lots of WOW due to incredible lighting! Perfect composition with the horizon and wind sailer. Great sky. There's nothing I would suggest to improve this image (which is rare indeed for me.)
I like the contrast between the dark rainy sky and bright flats (I assume Great Salt Lake?). Not sure I would use it in a travel guide though as a tourist would prefer a sunny sky (unless they were one of us : ) )
Lovely shot. Don't think it would have made it into a travel guide, though. Still a 9 from me.
Comment nr 2: this one keeps getting back to me... OK - a 10... But I still don't see t in a travel guide...
It is the kind of picture I would like to take some day. It is my favourite. I love the colors, the dramatic sky, composition.... Congratulations. Ribbon!!!
