Upper Beaver Meadows. The elk herd grazing the new grass.

Yes, I liked this, too. I'm just really surprised that others found it worth viewing. A better size here.

OH, the elk cow in the foreground left was VERY pregnant. She was really "moody". I'm sure a delivery of one or two elk calves was imminent.

Also, the 7.31 score on this image in day 1 is a total surprise. I did not have much confidence in this image before the voting. I nearly replaced this image with a flower or bird image. At this moment, I'm happy I went with the landscape with animals.

While this slipped under 7 for most of the voting phase, it has regained the 7.08 level on the morning of the last day of voting.

With three hours to go, 7.1217, which I expect will not hold.
Thanks everyone for the great comments and strong votes. I'm honored by your generosity.

A beautiful scene with immense depth and so rich in detail! Again, I admire your approach in presenting the real light and color. Congrats on another ribbon!
I keep coming back to see more details - just noticed the strange cloud formation to the right, they look like Mammatus clouds.
Congratulations again Richard! The light is perfect for the timing of this scene. I bet the light on the mountain faded quickly and the elk changed positions as well right after the shot. Good for you on capturing this great moment.
Congratulations on the ribbon. A well deserved result for this capture of life on the upper meadows at this time of year. I second what Tanguera says about the light on the mountain.
My only complaint would be the bush on the left. Because it is similarly colored to the elk my eyes want to see what that elk is doing, but are let down when they find just a fuzzy bush.
