 My first attempt at the advanced formating. Not to sure how to do most things, but did some levels, saturation, contrast, USM in Paint Shop Pro.

This is a great concept for the challenge. Very nice indeed.

Its weaknesses though are what have separated it from ordinary and greatness. In particular the lighting (flash) has killed the sense of 3rd party observation. It's plain dull to see light face-on like this I'm afraid. You would have greatly enhanced this image by using directional light - perhaps from above & behind, maybe softening it so that it looked liek the light from a kitchen in the giant's home.

You may also have tried a narrow DOF to focus on the golden egg. Well composed subject too.
