This is a candid taken at our local market, the lady didn't realize but the pooch did. I've nearly always had a dog and i can't imagine living without one at the moment, more giving than humans and they don't need much in return, just some decent kibble and a gentle hand.

The only negative I have for this is that your title is plural (buddies) but I see only one dog which confused me a bit. I am also a dog lover and have two (Bichons) that look very similar to this one. This image would win 1st place in another category other than this one like Best Friend or Companion or something. Beautiful shot nonetheless.
