Wow, I never would have thought that a fire could burn until next spring. It is sad that part of this scene has now changed. Good thing that you have captured this memory. And of course, I really love those carved out clouds on the left.
Richard, I'm sorry for the stress the wildfires cause to you & to all who live there. Hopefully you will soon get some winter weather to help out.
Thanks for your comments. I wish for some relief, too, but due to mismanagement of this wildfire (park officials were sure the snow would put out the fire, so they took no action), the fire is expected to burn until next Spring.
Just beautiful, Richard. Looking at the color version I can see why you chose to include so much of the scene to the left, but for the black and white, I think I agree with those who want more of the right. My heart aches for this place at this moment in time.
The composition of this scene was not accidental, nor casually chosen. Including more of the scenery to the right destroys everything which is harmonious in this scene.

For the Look Back 2012 Side Challenge.
Actually, I had thought the side challenge wasn't about posting challenge entries, but I looked back at the original post and saw that I was wrong.
This is certainly deserving of a ribbon, and one of the great landscape photos on this site, probably. It would look even more fantastic in a larger size.
Stunning photo, Richard. I will admit though that I do agree with the comment from cogerox below. The tree does little for me, and my eye honestly wants more of the lovely light that's hitting the hills in the right of the frame. Foolish comments, probably, but a 10 should aspire to be an 11, no?
Gorgeous scene- Richard? I expect this is your's and this cloud formation is coming up awesome in Black and white too. I've noticed Mt. Rainier near me causes repeats of the same type of clouds too. Great work!
Good golly, what a scene! There's so much interest here it hurts. A few small criticisms- much too dark and contrasty for my taste, the foreground tree distracts, and did you shoot this with the widest lens you had, because, wow what a scene. I don't know what was going on to your right, but if you could have moved over and lowered your camera to bring those foreground rocks more into play it would really have make this incredible.
So you DID finally get some nice clouds, eh? And one of those awesome wall-like ones, at that.
Great entry- I especially like the huge difference in clouds, their meeting over the peaks.
