 Purchased a pot of budding tulips earlier in April (2011), with the intent of photographing them as they grew. For this shot, I placed the pot on the railing of my sun deck, near sunset, proped it up so they would lean, then used my flash (hand held) to light from the underside. All the background went black - liked the effect. Also add a bit of water to the buds with a spritzer bottle.

Not sure I totally love the lighting... the stems in the middle stop me from seeing the blooms, but I do love the dark blacks and the purples.

personally I don't like the sizing on this photograph...I don't think it give justice to the tulips...I can't see much detail (which I think is there)

Beautiful colors. Tulips tend to droop, creating interesting angles to work with. Nicely done. (voted earlier)
