Prescribed burn in Rocky Mountain National Park. And, yes, the habitat belongs to the owls. But, this crowning burn of trees was very isolated in scope. Mostly, the prescribed burn was successful, with snow falling the next morning to snuff out the last of the embers.
A Latin palindrome, "In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni" ("We go wandering at night and are consumed by fire") was my second choice palindrome for this image. But, it was too much of a stretch.

My apology for putting my opinion here. To me this entry is the best and I view it many times (I'm not voting, sorry). A tough entry not easy to catch, find and shot. I respect your choice of getting this in its originality and perfect exposure. I have a similar experience on 2 occasion and I found out it's more dramatic to shot many stops under. Cheers! Alex.
Eek! I hope this didn't spread too far. The title suggests toasted owls, I hope not, lol. Good exposure on this, although I feel a slightly different crop would have been better so as not to chop off the top of the flames.
