Can someone tell me.....
On the whole, do the members of DPChallenge (registered users included)tend to show a bias in how they vote on pictures. By bias I'm asking are they a conservative/mainstream group that don't like controversy or can they be liberal minded when pictures depict "touchy" topics.
I've only been in three challenges and play it safe to the max. I'm thinking of "going outside the box" a bit on my next one.
I'd steer clear of touchy subjects if you want a good score. A lot of people on here are easily offended by what might seem to you like the smallest of things. Also, thinking outside the box is appreciated by a lot of people, but also a lot of people like the photos to fit directly to the challenge for a good score.
When I vote, my first impression is, "Do I like it?"
Not, "Is it safe, conventional or meet the challenge."
Do I personally like the shot and then I go from there. I say go for the outside the box once in a while, it's a great way to release your creative side. Things that I can almost guarantee won't do well are dead animals or any kind of feces.

My idea fits the challenge perfectly...it's just well...touchy topic.
I'm gonna go with it. Got it set up ... doing the shot this afternoon.
If it turns out, and meets the standard technically... I'll submit it and then close my eyes and brace myself.
Just remember that when it comes down to it, it's most important to please YOURSELF. If you're truly happy with whatever you come up with, you can more easily blow off voters who don't like your shot due to their personal feelings on its subject matter (or whatever).
Try go out of the box but dont expect much.
On this site I think you either have to be pretty mainstream or extreamly good to get good results.
But it isnt all about results I think. For me as a beginner in photography it has been more of experience and education and as such this site has been very good for me.

suppose i take a picture of my fender guitar. do i have to just avoid the logo? because i can't blur it out or remove it, right? just curious...
