I voted this image very highly indeed, but even if I didn't care for it much, it meets the challenge, is in great focus, etc etc., so from where come the 1s?
Says a lot more about those voters than it does about the image or the photographer, that's for sure.
First let me say, I scored this shot a 9... I thought it was great...
But if you seriously put a photo of a pregnant belly-dancer into a contest judged by the general public and don't understand why you got a few negative reactions, then you're not thinking... The 11 people that gave you a 1 are not blind or stupid... They didn't like your shot.
On a separate note, do you have to keep using 'retarded' as some kind of silly joke? It is a human tragedy and I hope you never have to experience it in your family.

hey man, it's a cool pic, but it's the kind of subject matter 'progressive' type people would respond well to, and, i think, 'un-progressive' people would be 'freaked out' by.
Tanya and another pregnant friend of hers asked me to take some pictures of them in their belly dance clothes. I thought this was a great idea. We took many more photos, some much better than this one was but it didn't meet the challenge. I'll share them later for those interested. I asked her to do this shot FOR the challenge. Many people posted some really nice comments about the photo, which I am glad.
Tanya is a professional belly dancer. She does this for a living. But she does not dance while being pregnant... the thought of that is just insane. It disturbs me slightly that some people were thinking of some sick fetish.
When we see a photograph, we have a choice of how to interpret it. I think some of us need to look through better eyes.
Personally I liked your shot allot and could see nothing that should offend anyone. Ignore the wowsers, its a photo that both you and Tanya should be proud of.

There were several pictures that I did rate well below yours that did unbelievably well. I was very surprised to find your picture very far down on the totem pole since I did expect it to be in the top 20. I evan mentioned that in the DPC fanatics chatroom. I thought you did a wonderful job with this shot and that was expressed in the indepth critique I left. To get a seven out of me is like trying to pull teeth, but I am no authority. This photo did not deserve a 1.
I love it!! I didn't get to vote on the open challenge, but this is a wonderful photo and I would have rated it very high. I miss my bellydancing classes so much :(. One day I'll have time to go back to them again.
I gave it a 10...I think it is perfect.
...posture...light..movement...she is beautiful and both being pregnant and dancing are wonderful natural things...if it was some sort of a fetish photo..well than that is natural and beautiful aswell...pooo on the ppl who didn´t give u the mark u earned
Do not fret, it could be much worse! Yes, I am the guy whose image fell exactly ONE place (number 35) behind your wonderful picture (number 34). And, to add insult to injury, I did not even score a single ONE for my submission. So, I wish that I had your eleven ONES. I still would have needed a total of 18 ONES to beat you, so I fail to see what you are complaining about, it could be worse – you could be me!.
By the way, I titled my image as "Fast Water", perhaps it should have been named, "Breaking Water"? {Pregnant women, spiders, and snakes all still scare me, so you only earned a middle of the road grade from me}

You think eleven 1`s is bad. I got twenty three 1`s for my headlice photo which was a very differcult shot. People vote on what they like, and with my headlice shot the 1st reaction is yuck therefore it gets 1`s no matter how good the photo. So pregnant woman some people find a turn off so it`s 1`s from them. To do well on dpc the photos have to be very pleasing to the eye like postcards.
1s kinda bother me. In my entire time at dpc i have only given two ones i think... It seems to me for the most part if someone takes the time and effort to submit thye deserve atleast a 2

Paul, I have to believe that something is irregular here. The scores for nudes and pets (such as yours) generally score in the medium to high range. To receive 99 ONES is just too strange. I looked at the image and I do not feel that it deserves 99 ONES. I would ask Drew and Langdon to investigate further for an error, bug, or perhaps even sabotage.
my bet, and this is sheer speculation of course, is that those 99 ones were the voting population saying unequivocally that the picture didn't meet the challenge.
