Anyone ever get a new, better camera, and feel new anxiety to do better in the next challenge, (or the next family outing) because you have better equipment? I just moved up from an A70 to a 300d, and I'm trying to get something together for the Choices contest, and I am noticing I'm putting more pressure on myself to do better than before because I have this new camera. Anyone else go through something like that? (What makes it worse is that for me, at least, my pictures from the 300d are worse than what I got from the A70, because I don't know what I'm doing yet -- I'm at the beginning of the learning curve!).
Sigh... but what the heck -- it's fun nonetheless!
All I can say is keep at it Gary. The 300d is a bit of a beast. It took me quite a while to get to grips with it. Play around with the parameters, boost all the settings and just experiment. I found I get the best using the AV mode. Enjoy your camera!
I can sympathize with you. I haven't participated in a challenge since I bought the Nikon D70 a few weeks ago. I've been out taking pictures and practicing, but haven't found any that I can adapt to the challenges. I'm going to try again.. but I feel the same kind of pressure. Almost like I'm psyching myself out.

Good point, well said and I might add that sometimes it is harder to paint on a large canvas than it is to paint the same image in miniature (especially if you are given many more brushes)

Just turn down the image size - you're in complete control of your canvas size ;)
Seriously though, participating in these challenges is about putting an idea into a theme. It doesn't matter what camera you have when you're formulating an idea. I was so excited to get out and shoot with my new D70... At first the infinite settings awere a bit overwhelming, so I set it on auto and started snapping pictures. One at a time I needed this feature or that, and whipped out my instruction book on the spot.
Dont psyche yourself out - you've got an awesome new camera, just let it set you free, and I think you'll find your pictures are better without any effort on your part.

Yeah I felt that way once I got my new 300d....just waiting and eager to learn this new camera to put it to a challenge....thinking too, that I can produce much better image, quality wise. For some reason I thought too, that I could even be better at comps. and ect....What I have found out, that I have became better with such a nice camera. So I have been there, done that, and got the shot! :) Still, learning about my 300D...Did you know that you can watch DVD's on it??? (Joking) :)
I found that when I switched from the fd92 to my 717 my photos were actually WORSE for awhile until I learned more about the new camera. While the 92 was more point and shoot, I kept forgetting to check settings, what dials to use, etc. with the 717. Have fun learning with your new "toy"!
Actually you might get WORSE pics for awhile while you got used to the new camera. I know I did when I got my 10D. Tooks some getting used to and adjusting. Now I get better ones. Ann
