they are a couple of my first tries, can you tell any differences between these 2 and the other herons in my port? I thought it important to use a subject i was well aquainted with to see differences and do comparisons, if you have any let me know : )
well, when i took these shots, i was shooting on single shot mode, hadn't gotten to the page in manual yet how to shoot in 'fast' mode' today I did and it is REALLY fast, faster than i am. It will take a little getting used to i think...but of course that is what I am hoping.
do the eagles look too oversharpened?

can anyone tell me if with the 100-400mm lens, taking this shot from the ground, with eagles in tree there would the aperature should of been to blur background a little?

With the background so close to the subject there will not be a dramamatic blur even wide open @ f/4.5 or f/5.6, assuming you are using the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L.
They are very good shots. The second might be a little oversharpened, but still very good. I have never been this close to a bald eagle that wasn't tethered; I am jealous...
there was actually a male and female sitting on the same branch, not too far up, the female was just a bit too obscured by the branches to get a really great shot of them both together.
