Do you want to make all the hair grey, or just a touch of grey here & there? Either way, I think the best wat is to do you selection carefully and then CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+B for BW conversion on the selection and tweak the color sliders until you get it about where you want it and use dodge & burn to enhance. I need to make someone's light brown hair grey. What would be the best way to do this so that it looks as close to natural as possible?
most people pay me to get rid of the grey hair...had someone ask me this wk if I could make their hair a "pretty gray" (as apposed to???....)...and I should have come back with Art's smart remark...have kids....lol

Ahh, so like Steve Martin, you suffer from poliosis - premature greying. I just keep a little thingy of gold-brown henna on hand to use as needed...please please PLEASE don't tell Magnumphotography...;-)

You can use powder, like talcum powder, but they make a special powder to do what you want, available where you would get theatre make up.
This is helpful (checkmark!). I've been entertaining an idea that would involve doing this (not in post). And talcum powder was the best I could come up with. Thanks!
I just did this to a photo for a friend a few weeks ago she had it print made for her brother as a gag gift, He has blonde hair so it was fairly easy but I imagine with a little extra toying around you could do it fairly easy to any color hair. I masked his hair made a couple of dupicate layers of it and greyscaled one and the other I toyed around with the hues and sats then blended them together. turned out very real looking.
