some really nice ones, I agree. the key question is will you or others take points away for the title?
I defintely dont take off for titles, I know how hard it is to come up with one. Honestly, we all know the theme. Let the picture do the talking for you =)
If the title is a mile long and is required to explain how the photo fits the challenge.....I don't like that.
The rules on this are simple.
Look at the picture....does it infer waiting, if it does...it fits.
If the title is required to explain it to me, it doesn't cut it.
This is a photography challenge. The image is the thing.
Hope that isn't too harsh.
On a more positive note, some good shots!
I know you'll be there rooster!
Some good shots in the challenge. I think I just might (fingers crossed) end up in the top ten this time! :) Still only one comment, though. Looking forward to some more as the week progresses.
I think that there are a lot of people here that are looking at these things in a very closed minded way and are really doing themselves and everyone who views this site a disservice. The context of an image strongly impacts how the viewers react to it. A while back I remember reading an article, I believe it was in Popular Photography. In this article the author claimed to be doing a review of a new photographer and posted a number of images and text describing the artistic meanings of the images. I even remember reading some letters that people wrote about this article complimenting the photos and photographer. The pictures were all out of focus and looked a lot like shots that you would delete after a day of shooting. As it turns out it was an April fools joke and they really were throwaway pictures that the author had taken. The point is that the title and context of photographs gives them a lot of their meaning. An untitled photograph of something could mean 1000 different things to 1000 different viewers. For some art this is what is desired. For other art the artist can use a title to focus the viewer’s attention to a particular theme to convey his message. I don’t think that a picture is any worse because the title focuses the viewer’s attention to a certain aspect of the photograph. Honestly, I think a lot of the contrived photos in the challenges that are obviously set up to blatantly meet the challenge lose a lot if not all of their impact because of their artificial nature. Why does it seem like there are so many people here who want to stifle the creativity of others. In the last few challenges that I have entered I believe that my pictures fit the challenge topic. None of them were the most blatant pictures I took during the challenge period but they were the ones that I thought were the best pictures that still fit the challenge. I got pretty poor scores in those challenges because people didn’t see how they fit but it hasn’t stopped me from putting in what I think it my best entry. When I vote I like to see creativity and interesting interpretations of the challenges. In the end for me it is the image that counts, not how blatantly it fits the challenge.

I agree with you that there is a great deal of seemingly close-mindedness. I may have been guilty of that myself, early on. The question of titles and set-up photos and people stretching to meet the challenge seems to be a constant re-joinder here. I'm not thrilled with those who dismiss an entry off-hand because they don't think it fits the challenge, but it comes with the nature of the site. It's instructive to me to see what percentage of people think I "missed it". Then I just look at my 8, 9, and 10's and think about those who appreciated what I did.
As for your "pretty poor scores", however, I don't see it. In all but one of the last 7 challenges you entered you placed above the 90th percentile! I'm not sure your conclusion follows from the evidence. Some of the comments on "Lepidoptera" even counter your claim.
Those photos were much better photos than some of my others that scored higher, that is what I was talking about.
