I just wanted to share a few photos that I took this morning. I think they came out pretty good, considering it was taken 8 miles away! There are only 3 more of these launches left, so if you have the opportunity to visit one you definitely should!!
Yup! After 29 years its being retired. Sad. I bought tickets to this launch on EBay. I think it was $225 a piece (3 of us) and it was worth every penny! I had this exact picture hanging on my wall growing up (although, that poster was a bit better quality because the press booth is only 3 miles away, instead of the 7 miles that i took this at). Im estatic these photos came out as well as they did.
That was just UNREAL COOL! Thanks for finding that one.
I was fortunate enough to see some of the Saturn 5's that went to the moon, from 125 miles away, and to be there for the first Space Shuttle launch. We waited three nights for them to get the fuse lit, but I was ready and got some good photos.
On one of the l later launches, I discovered that a motor drive could use up a 36 shot roll of film in about 5 seconds,,,,, oops : )
The next to last one, Endavor's last was the last one for me to attend, and then only from about 14 miles away, as close as you could get without a special pass.
So much force for a minute of so then sudden solitude after separation for a while before entering the atmosphere once again. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
I watched an early morning launch about ten years ago. As the launcher got to a particular altitude it suddenly cast a huge shadow across the sky. Amazing phenomenon. I had no still camera but I have some video footage somewhere.
