So I took some pictures today in RAW and they looked really nice and they looked kind of red. But when I open them in raw they are more yellowish and for the life of me cannot figure out how to get them to look like the preview on the camera.
Can anyone help? I'm thinking of using it for my free study so I don't want to post them.
I think the preview on the camera has applied the default settings to the preview, what would be applied if it were writing JPG's. Also, everything looks sharper and brighter on that tiny screen. What are you doing your RAW conversions with?
I use the Canon DPP that comes with my camera and there is an "as shot" setting. Perhaps ACR has some thing like that? Might just be some trial and error to get it looking the way you want.
The beauty of RAW is you can adjust pretty much anything on the photo, I usually go through the white balance presets first, Defult is As Shot, Check each one because they usually will make a fairly drastic change in the appearence. From there tweek the sliders below and then go through the tabs to the HSL/Greyscale and there you can adjust the hues sats and luminance to get the color the way you want it to look.
Learn your RAW converter then this isn't an issue. Sure DPP (since it's tied to Canon) will probably have defaults that fit a particular image, however, that same default may be applied to all images therefore will not be right for another image.
Same with ACR, defaults are applied unless you tell it not to do that.
The thing with *all* converters not written by the camera manufacturer is that they do not understand the camera's built-in color profiles (Canon calls them Picture Styles). You *can* get profiles for ACR that let it closely replicate the in-camera JPEGs.
