From Wheeledd WOW, what a great idea--product shots for a catalog of abstract art! I love it!
I have voted 8 on most of the abstract catalog entries. Four of them I thought were stunning abstracts (including this one) so I gave them 10s.
I understand that some people are upset about this set of entries. One of the important functions of contemporary art is to raise issues and push boundaries. This often gets people upset. Hang in there!

Why would you say it's "calling people out"? Usually that would be associated with implying someone did something wrong. During the Product II challenge there was much speculation as to who belonged to the group that was behind the Abstract entries. Now after the challenge has finished it's quite visible for anyone to see by looking at the results.
I figured your group would probably end up using this thread as a springboard to highlight the event and the photos entered (which I see has happened somewhat). All fine with me.
Six months or two years from now, if I want to remember this event all I have to do is search for 'The Abstract Club' and I'll be able to find it. That's all.

I do want to understand why this group thought it was necessary to do something like this. Surely there is a point being made about something. For the life of me I can't figure out what it is, at least in a positive sense.
I don't understand why people are so upset about this? A vague challenge description gave way to different interpretations (and interesting ones at that). Did it really need a point? I don't see why this would provoke any negative feelings.
I thought they were interesting contributions to the challenge...

Yea, i can see that Barry. I think it's just that your...' So I can remember...' in the first post came across as somewhat ominous and considering some of the, IMO, over the top reactions in the other thread i think there is some apprehensionn.
On my list of shots I really don't like, product shots are right up there with splashing drops of water, so I didn't even take a look at the submissions until last night. I've been laughing about those abstract entries all night long. The uptight comments are priceless.

And here is the misconception... I don't think anyone is upset about the art aspect of these entries. It's about the method in which they were presented. Why wasn't this idea ever presented in a thread so others could participate?? Why was it only this group? These are the issues so please stop presenting it as if no one agrees with the art...

The subject matter isn't the issue, not for me anyway.
The issue is a small group of members got together and decided what type of image to enter and to name them all in a similar fashion. Doing so in an apparent effort to make some sort of statement about the challenge topic, or DPC in general.
Since none of them has offered up any explanation, we are left to our own conclusions.
I'll tell you that one PM led to another and another, and then there were twelve. That simple. That inclusive. It was open to whomever we thought might be interested in the abstract catalog. Nothing fancy, sorry.
7. When posting potentially adult content, include a warning. When possible, include the warning in your subject line. If you are posting in an existing thread, consider carefully whether the content is appropriate for the thread. If it is, include a warning at the beginning of your post. Unless your warning is in the subject line, any images must be linked rather than thumbnailed or posted directly.
That's Rule #7 for forum posts. Not sure how it fits, though.
