Is the only focus that should be used with a remote trigger, manual focus?

or does the focus lock when you push the shutter half way?

What I did was press the shutter to lock focus and then recomposed the picture..went and got in the photo and used the remote trigger...does the camera then refocus? my pictures seem to have focused off subject.

I know that if I used manual focus it wouldn't be an issue, but just curious as to if it is possible to use the autofocus too.

If you release the shutter after you recomposed to allow yourself to get into the picture then yes, the camera will refocus when the shutter is pressed again.

Also, focus and recompose isn't always the best method especially in situations of shallow DOF since recomposing changes the camera/subject relationship. If the subject in the recomposed image is the same distance from the camera as the one you focussed on then it's not really an issue.

To ensure focus though you can use AF to focus then switch to manual focus so the focus won't change when you go to take the actual shot.

THANKS....That makes sense...I guess I was thinking I was locking in the AF because the camera was set for trigger remote....

It was a group photo so the autofocus 'would' have worked had I not released the shutter...

it was a group photo with a waterfall to the side...I tried to focus the group then recompose to have the group off to the side....but the center point is in focus....

a 'duh' moment for me...

You can also choose your AF point. I do this sometimes when I know I'll be focusing on an off-center subject. It works pretty well. Just use your rear direction buttons to adjust, then shoot.

Another way to accomplish this is to set your focus, then switch your lens to MF, then your camera will not refocus automatically.
