I don't know... sometimes people like anonymity. If they want to announce their presence they can say hello in a forum.
Or they could just make it an opt in thing in your preferences, that way if you don't want people to know if you're here 24/7 you can hide it :)
Well, you can already see if someone is logged in or not (profile page), and the duration (Who's Online). I thought this would be a helpful feature as sometimes I'll run across an image from a prior challenge or forum thread and look at the photographer's profile...only to see they haven't entered a challenge in awhile. A glance at the forum thread postings (bottom of their profile page) will sometimes give a clue as to how long it's been since they've been active at DPC.
Last login is pretty meaningless for some... If you have the keep logged in option set - would you use the last refresh or something instead? In which case those of us that browse with several machine and a bizzion tabs may not even open that tab for weeks at a time.... Last thread post is on the bottom of the profile page so could easily be copied to the main profile header... or maybe last additionally challenge entered and/or last post or something might help..... Your really look for people that drop off the planet right...
I would like to see something like this put into place as well. However, it seems people like to stay in their holes and not publicly show themselves so we could keep it a bit more private and set it up to trigger after an expiration period.
For example, instead of showing that I was online 2 minutes ago or my last login was 3 months ago it could just say something like: "This user has been inactive for 3 months", or "This user has been inactive for 5 years". Until that expiration period is reached it will show the user/member as "active" or just not show anything at all.
I think DPC should not turn into Facebook page and I'm pretty sure that everyday we'll have at least one or two topics titled: "Where's Tom, Dick or Harry, I haven't seen him awhile"

I don't like it. I want my anonymity to remain as it is and I'll even go as far as to say that the Who's Online is invasive to my privacy. I don't want people to know when I'm online or not. I don't do Facebook, My Space, Twitter or any other social network thing just because I think it's not anyone's business when I'm online or not. If I want you to know I'm online, I'll tell you. :)
If privacy is such a big concern then how about going with "Last Participated" instead? In other words, you do anything specific on the site such as upload a submission, leave a comment, mark a favorite, vote or post in a thread the last participated date gets updated, but lurking doesn't get recorded.

I get a real kick out of the "intrudes on my privacy" comments. We come here for community; to share thoughts, to participate... but we don't want folks to know that we were (or are) here?! WTF! It's like wanting to be party to a conversation, and occasionally interject a comment, but not be recognized as being "in the room."
Hell, it's not like someone said our complete log-in history should be public record... now *that* would be intrusive!

I'm on this side. If you want to stay private then don't get online. It is very simple to track people these days.

I think you're missing the point and I'm sorry you don't see things from the other side but my point remains that finding out someone's last login has absolutely nothing to do with the betterment of this site and is a pointless usage of whatever resources are available to the programming staff. What reason could there be for seeing someone's last login other than curiosity? Feel free to PM me with answers.
You're all jumping on the 'there's no such thing as privacy' bandwagon, like a snowball gathering grit but again, the point remains that the facility you want to include has nothing to do with the site's functionality.
