I'm well under a 5 now. I think I got caught by a narrow interpretation of the topic, as I just cannot see this image being bad enough to warrant such a score. Would be nice to get some comments telling me if this is the case.

I'm going to try to comment on all the images but I can't promise anything... I wanted to make it through the Fine Arts challenge and wasn't able to do it so hopefully I can finish commenting through the week. I am being brutally honest in this challenge so I'm sorry if that offends anyone, I'm doing this because there aren't many people commenting (Fine Arts Hangover I'm sure), so if I'm giving you a low vote, I'm going to tell you why... But, if I give you a high vote, I'll tell you why too :)
This phenomenon of starting low and working higher over the week seems to be a new pattern. In years past I always looked to start high and decline as the week progressed. There must be some lowish voters who are in the habit of voting soon after rollover that have not done so in the past.

I think it's just a trend that is not normal for you, since your entries usually rate pretty high. It' pretty common for me. I think the usual crowd of early voters have a tendency to vote with a broader spread, so you will see either lower or higher votes and move closer to the middle as the week progresses.

Back when I was submtting on a regular basis my pattern was to start out very high (ex 7.5+ after 20 or so votes) then plummet to 6.5 at around the 60-75 vote mark. The rest of the week would be boring as hell as my score would just sit there until the last day when it would reach either 6.4 or 6.6 depending on how the last minute bumping went. When you get down to it a 6.5 scoring photo can often be the equivalent of one that scores a 5.5 with the difference being better equipment was used and/or it was processed to what's currently in vogue.
I'd also noticed a trend change. I've had a number of challenges that started out very low and went into the 6s. It's been along time since I've had a strong start.
I was actually surprised with this challenge. I just looked at thumbnails after roll over, and I was thinking the same thing as some of the earlier posts: dull challenge, not very interesting pictures. But you really can't tell from thumbnails on this one. When I finally voted, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought there were some very interesting, well done pictures. It was a hard challenge to shoot for -- but I thought there were some very nice results.

I agree, wish there were more comments to go along with the low votes. I'm at my worst to date and half expected it with my picture. 3.9 and 2 comments. Both comments were very much appreciated too. Help me out here people. Go back to the image you gave the lowest score to and leave a comment. Probably was mine and I love constructive critism.
