I've been viewing various profiles here and photography websites over the last few days and it's got me wondering, who do you think the 'great' portrait photographers are? Someone here on DPC? A famous name? The bloke next door?
Would love to hear your thoughts and if you've got links to their work post them here too :)

That stuff is very very commercial...eh, ya know. Been there.
Brett Walker is easily my favorite, hands down. Not commercial, conventional or average in any way and his work varies which is something I really enjoy. Certainly not boring. I mean, each image utilizes different technique that are pretty bold, that suit his subjects perfectly.

I've always really loved Jan Saudek's stuff. Maybe not safe for work that.
I'm more familiar with the people on this site. One of the folks who consistently wows me with his talent at people photography is dwterry. Since he's dropped his paid membership so doesn't have a portfolio here anymore, here is his Flickr page.
I always get inspired by Walkers work. I just revisited that one taken last Fall which would have made for a perfect full-on, posed Brett W type of shot.
Given most of the favorites listed so far I doubt my link will appeal to many of you.
One of my favorites portrait photographers is Terry Geerdts.
Terry Geerdts got her start at here at DPChallenge and is now an award winning, top flight infant/child/family portrait photographer in the New York metropolitan area. It is my belief she will eventually rank with the likes of Anne Geddes.
She is no longer active at DPC but still has a profile here - TerryGee. She has participated only once in the last 5 years and all her DPC images were done long before she began her portrait specialty.
