Hey can someone help me out here, in advanced editing can you select somthing like a background (without the subject) and use gaussian blur only on the background whilst leaving the subject un-touched?

Hey Josh!
It depends on the level of blur that you use.
If it's too much, then it's a feature, not an edit.
Use it wisely ;)

yes, that is true. Use is not prohibited, but how much you use can go from edit to feature, and that's a no-no.
