Yeah, your shadows are definitely harsh. Overall it's not well lit, in my view. The background should enhance -- it actually detracts here. If taken when there was more light, the background would work better. Two dudes seem to be half-smiling -- a no-no for this shot, I would think. Try big bearded guy on the end, with guy in white shirt in his place. The white line on the dock isn't pretty. Shoot higher, or crop. A shot from lower down might be dramatic, removing some of the elements that detract.
i agree with Louis. also try to position the members so not all of them are facing the front. have others face sideways while others mid-sideways. there is a good article, find the hard copy of the magazine since it has got more information popular photography
