I have the sony F717 and thought someone may be able to answer this questions. You know how you can zoom in as you take a picture to get an effect similar to this to this ... Well I have tried this technique with the 717 and find that when the shutter clicks it does not take into account the zoom anyway to do this effect? Anyone? jmsetzler? Thanks!
My old digital camera is the Sony 505 ( it is the predecessor to the 707 and 717 ) The camera was not capable of zooming during exposure. The picture that you have referenced, does not in my opinion, appear to be a digital zoom shot. I believe it was done in Photo Shop. The reason being, is that the woman is clear and does not really show any signs of zooming. In any case, hopefully someone with a 717 can respond, I just know the Sony 505 was incapable of zooming during exposures.
That's one of the features I really would love to have, too. But I don't know any camera which can do that. So we have to either move the subject or the camera while the shutter is open. But the results are pretty bad because of the shake.
Same here. Not like I haven't tried! But no luck. Wasn't there a submission a while back that was done with the zoom like that?? I'm trying to find it...

I think that you need to be able to manually adjust the zoom.
Some digital fixed zoom lenses (you can't change the whole lens is what I want to say) have a direct physical link between the zoom ring and lens, but most are electronical and will be locked during exposure.
Did you use the timer, a remote, or do you just have long fingers, good balance, and no sense? Great shot!
Was that a Sony 502.7 by the time you were done?

Thanks Dave, pretty simple, I duct taped the camera to the bottom of my skateboard. Set the shutter priorty mode for about 1/15th of a second. I set the timer and quickly took off down the street. Using a slow shutter causes the road to blur, but the skateboard stays in focus because it is taped and stationary to the bottom of the board..Hope that helps. lol and yes I dont have much sense..lol
I believe the photosig nude running in the forest is a photoshop production; just some (3-5%) gaussian blur applied to everything but the nude The nude itself has absolutely no signs of zooming even though the area immediately surrounding her does have that effect. Still a very nice image.

Heheh, is that why you know use a canon instead of a sony? Or do you just turn your board upside down to use the sony!?!
I think I remember reading somewhere that the Minolta DiMAGE 7i is capabible of zooming during exposures, but I don't think that's a feature supported by many digicams yet.
