Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS

Curious if it would be allowed to use layer masks and let one layer be a negative of the original and then mask out a portion of the image so that part of what is shown is in negetive while the rest is "normal" or would that fall under "use distortions to create new effects or radically alter objects."? Would this be considered similar to selective use of color via a mask? Thank you for any responces.

It would depend on whether the edges of the area defined follow the edges of areas in the scene. If you create a shape that did not exist before, it is not legal. But if you take one specific object and change it to negative, AFAIK, that is perfectly legal.
For certainty, take an example of what you want to do, and submit it via a "General Inquiry" ticket under Help>Contact on the main site menu.

In this case it would be a defined shape in the original image. Say for example the view through a doorway (this is not exactly my use- since it may show up in a challenge I do not wish to give too much away but the principle would be the same).

That sounds OK, since the shape is already defined.

Thank you for the responces. Maybe just submit the photo in the challenge and see what happens. I have only had one DQ so far.

Just remember that if it was less than 25 entries ago, another DQ could bring a 1-week suspension. But, if you are inverting an existing object/shape, it is essentially just an extreme color shift and should be OK.
