I thought it was tomorrow also. A few of us were going to snowshoe up to the 5,100 foot level on Mt. Baker and spend the night just to shoot it. But .... we live in the NW so that was nixed with incoming rain (snow at that level) and clouds. Maybe next time.
The moon is always the same size no matter where you are. The Wolf Moon, as this one is called, is NOT bigger, but BRIGHTER by 30% due to the angular relation to the earth in this hemisphere this time of year.
I seen it on the way home from work, it was freaking huge. And the sunset made everything a nice orange, and it was close to the downtown cityscape. AHHHH I didn't have my camera with me :(
The moon didn't look full here lastnight. Should be tonight. I will be at an AC/DC concert tonight and should have a good view of the moon from where I am going to be sitting. Unfortunately no cameras allowed at the concert so I wont get to take any pics of the moon.
I didn't have a camera with me, but we were on our way to pick up the car from the shop, and it looked incredible this evening at 5:15pm. It was still light out too!
It's calm and about 70 F here tonight. The sky is sort of hazy at high levels with smoke from woods fires about 15 miles away this evening. It made for an unusual sunset with all the smoke.
it couldn't be more clear here today, Can see every direction for miles. It is supposed to get cloudy later tonight though so maybe the moon will have some company up in the sky.
I have a glimpse of the Moon and occasionally Mars with it, but nothing clear enough to get a good photo of (I tried). You will still have a chance tomorrow and the next night to get good shots of an almost full Moon if the skies are clear.
Just happened to be on a road trip down in Arizona desert, so the timing was perfect.
I'm sure I have some better ones, but this was the first decent one that I pulled up...
The most interesting part was the really huge ring around the moon (not in this image) for a few hours. Almost looked like the sun-dogs that we used to get up in Canada (but obviously a "moon" dog instead).
You can get timing info from the US Naval Observatory's Complete Sun And Moon data for one day website. The Full Moon was last night (1/29/10) at 10:19 pm Pacific Time, so it was actually visible over the US -- often at the "moment" when the Full Moon occurs it's only visible from other parts of the world.
