I am preparing an order of service booklet for my mother's funeral on Friday, and am including a photograph of a snowdrop on the front page, under her name. I want the photograph to merge with the background (cream textured card), a sort of soft or 'ragged' edge, rather than the straight edge it has at the moment. I have no idea how to go about this, and am hopeful that a DPC member will come to my rescue. I have uploaded the photo to my portfolio in a big enough size for what I need. If anyone is able to help I would be really grateful - I am going to have to go to bed now, and will be going straight to work early tomorrow, but will check in again tomorrow afternoon (UK time).
I think the problem is maintaining the transparency of the fade on the edges. Here's what I did with it, but when I save and flatten it to any of the formats I can upload to DPC, it loses the transparency.
I also saved it as a .PSD file, which should preserve the transparency of the faded edge. I uploaded it to Yousendit, and you can download it from this link
The problem is JPG does not support transparency. So the BG on the printed image has to match the color of the stock it's being printed on, basically. I don't know of any workaround on this offhand. But someone might... There are lots of actions that can be downloaded to do a "paintbrush" effect around the edges.
PNG does seem to preserve transparency, though. I downloaded the PNG I posted above and when I opened it, the transparency was still there. I think my fade is too close to the frame edge however. Redoing it...
I think the PSD file I linked above is probably the better option if you want to use my edit. Getting the PNG to a reasonable size to upload causes some serious posterization of the image.
