I too posted a shot that can be a solo/small-group/team sport, depending on the context. I have a hunch that I'll do poorly because of it, but it was better than not submitting anything. I guess we'll know in about 12 hours what the voters think!
I didn't go there . . . . I figured that while many things are a team sport sometimes (Olympic teams for instance, or bike tag teams), I thought that DPC'ers would probably only think of the classic team sports as meeting the challenge.
There are several sports that are called a 'team' without necessarily being a team. Chess team, swimming team etc. When I think of a team it is usually a sport that requires two or more participates competing at the same time against another two or more competitors. That said, I'm not going to be overly anal about the dictionary definition of a team or the history of every sport depicted either.
The NCAA (colleges) holds a team championship golf tournament every year. Likewise for gymnatics, tennis and track, and other sports where there's a team of competitors in "individual" events.

I think your dictionary is a bit narrow in its view.
Certainly golf is often played as a one on one type sport, but you can for example play with teams of two, who take shots in turn - not just a group of people playing golf on their own, but one round of golf, with one ball, with two people hitting the same ball - that is certainly a team effort just as much as baseball is.
Though I'd agree that a golf shot would do very badly in the challenge - it isn't something you'd think of straight away as a team sport, particularly if you don't actually play the game or know how competitions can be put together.
I'd say golf is not normally considered a team sport, but it can be played as a team sport. Just as basketball is a team sport but can be played individually (one on one).
I'd bet if you submitted it to the challenge you'd get hammered.
formula one racing is another 'team' thing that doesn't really strike me as a team sport - but there are various racing teams that compete.
Funny you mention that . . . we just recently went ot see the IMAX 3-D film about Nascar racing and it was team-team-team all the way. They really got the point across that it truly takes the whole team, literally. But I don't think it would pass here. LOL
I would say that if you submit a golf photo you will get higher scores if somehow the photo communicates that it is a team sport. I can’t think of how you might do this but if you can more power to you.
It seems that each challenge a few people push the bounds of the challenge and when they get low scores for not meeting the challenge they blame it on the voters for not seeing their genius. I am not at all upset with people who want to push the bounders of the challenge but I also don’t get upset with voters who give higher scores to good photos that clearly meet the challenge then photo where the connection is not clear.
