I may be traveling soon on a photo exepedition. How do people here store there full memory cards. I use the compact flash. I'm curious because I really have no idea. I'm not bringing the Laptop but will have more than 30 gigs worth of cards. How should store them so they won't get damaged.
Use whatever storage you are comfortable with. The main dangers are water, heat, crushing, and dirt or lint getting into the pin sockets in them. If you are planning to shoot RAW, you may need a lot more than 30G, depending on how much shooting you will be doing and for how many days. I had 52 gigs in 10 days when I converted the .jpg's to .tif files when I went to Montana last summer.
There are probably some nifty little card wallets for them. I usually keep them in the little plastic cover that comes with them, and put them in a zip pocket in my camera bag.
I use 2 Hakuba memory card cases to hold all my sd cards. They make a CF one too which holds 4 instead of the 8 that the sd version holds. Filled cards are always put back in the case label side down so as not to rewrite on a used card.
I prefer these to the soft cases that are normally available because they seem more sturdy and prices are about the same or just a little more. Vanguard makes one that is a bit cheaper, but the Hakuba version seems flatter on the outside, but still has a lot of rubber inside to hold the cards in.
The multiply card case is bigger then the cases that comes with the cards so that there's less chance of losing them and if you do with the Hakuba one you can pull out the rubber that holds the cards in and insert a business card, replace the rubber and the cards can be returned to you in case someone finds it.
Check the net for Gepe or Hama cardboxes, card cases. Some other brands might have them too. Rugged, sometimes waterproof hardcase boxes to put your cards in.
It would be worth your while to consider getting a little backup hard drive, along the lines of one of these.
They're nice and small, and it's really nice to have some peace of mind when traveling. I know I feel much more comfortable being able to make backups of shots as I go, even if I don't have the laptop along.

I usually take a laptop, or make DVD's with the local computer when I visit friends. One of those gadgets is on my wish list.

I don't believe they tag them... at least I don't think mine does. It's just making a copy of them on its hard drive, which I can attach to my computer and access as an external drive.
Would it be possible to stop by a wall-mart or wallgreens and store them on their system or make a dvd or another shop and use their pc to upload to your own photo site?

For about $100.00 more you can get a netbook with more storage space, plus be able to do other things.
