this morning it was a balmy 5F above zero....quite an improvement from most of this weeks morning lows of -32F before windchill factored in......luckily for us the wind hasn't been factoring in much.
Compared to the previous posters, it's a relatively civil 31 F in NYC right now, though the wind whipping around the buildings at times is not the most pleaseant thing in the world.
Right now its 48, wind chill of 42, which is crazy cold for South Florida. Last night was the coldest Orange Bowl on record. I think overnight it got down into the 20s...again, super cold for down here.
Here in SE Missouri it's 21 degrees...with a windchill of 16...and for the first time this winter expecting 2-3 inches of snow tonight, thank God no ICE..

also deep in SOFLA....this morning at 7 there was actual ICE on my windshield. First time I've seen ice on my car in the 10 years I've lived here.
Currently 32F(0C) but with wind chill bringing it down to 18F (-8C) .It's been snowing here for the last 24 hours. Off course the UK stops with just a light fall of snow so this heavy snow has caused the country to come to a standstill !
Nevermind, I will be in Egypt on Tuesday where it will be around 76F(24C)

Where I live it has crept down to -22F/-30C. The little village a few miles away had down to -32.8F/-36C. It is expected to get even colder, down to -40F/-40C some places.... Yikes!

I can`t even begin to imagine how cold that must be.. if it hits -2C (yes, minus two) here then we batten down the hatches and wait it out.
*if your a fricken eskimo or have 12 layers of cloths on and electric gloves and socks!!! and this from a guy who spent the first 20 years of his life in all parts of Colorado and then 9 years in Illinois on the lake shore! :{

When it snows we just start to hibernate.
At -40C, the temperature would be at about twice that recommended for your freezer. Now if you couple the cold weather with gusting winds, chances are that if you have to go outside you will have to walk backwards into the wind because walking straight into it would simply take your breath away.
One can readily survive and even work in weather such as this, but you have to be prepared for it. I have worked in places where you would start diesel powered equipment in late fall and let it run till spring...otherwise they would never start. Similarly, one would have to use a tiger torch on the tracks of heavy machinery to thaw out the links, and in many instances it was simply too cold for the equipment.

Another good thing about weather that cold, besides no bugs, is that making popsicles is really quick and easy.

Same story in Western NC. It is up to the low 20s right now and this feels warm compared to the past week. also, it is supposed to start snowing again, and temps are supposed to plummet through the weekend.
