Ok, here is the deal.....I just built myself a new computer and it screams!!!! I could probably use it as a server. Anyway I have a 1TB hard drive and like a dumb a@@ I really did not make a big enough partition for windows. Ok now for my question... Is there any way for me to break the partitions without losing windows. The prob is I installed an old copy that I had never used of windows XP with service pack 1 on the disk. It took me days (because of my extremely slow internet) to download all of the updates. What process should I go through to break partitions / reinstall my operating system.....
As previously mentioned, there are aftermarket apps that can do a nondestructive repartition. There is an open source program called GParted that can do the job. I know in the past GParted was iffy with the windows NTFS file system. Not sure how it is these days, but their supported file systems chart sys it is fully supported now. I have not used it myself.
Using partition magic would probably be easier, though it is a pay product.
