I decided not to submit to the "Threes" challenge late last night as I felt my submission might be considered against "the spirit of the rules" because of the cloning required.
Would value opinions on whether this was correct.

I suppose it all depends whether you concider the droplets as " major elements" or not?
I feel you are probably correct, would have been an interesting entry though. Perhaps you could have shaken off the drops and just replaced 3 back, just a thought,

Thanks for the reply Paul, I considered all the points you made..however, I didn`t take the shot until late Sunday evening and when I went back to try again the light was gone. :(

I would really appreciate a site council member giving an opinion on whether this image would have been DQ`d should it have been submitted.
It seems to come into a grey area ie....what constitutes the "spirit of the rules".
It would be a great help to me and I`m sure many other submitters if this could be clarified a little and perhaps this image is a good example..as I just did not know whether to submit or not and ended up "playing safe" by removing it.

In my opinion you made the right decision. Normally I would think removing a raindrop or 2 wouldn't be a problem, but since these are the main part of your photos, and the editing would have been the only way your photo would have fit the challenge, I would say it constituted a "main element" and I would have voted to DQ the shot, not only by the "spirit" of the rules, but by the wording of the rules.

I agree with Konador.. I saw too many pictures in the challenge who were adjusted to the challenge. People taking shots, then looking at it with: "how do i crop this to hold three", then naming it something with 'three' (wich is kinda boring for a title since we all know it has something to do with 3)..
There are a few pictures out there that really deserve to win, since they captured 3 of something in real life without editing or cropping too much.. This picture would not be one of them even with editing.

I haven`t had the chance to view the images in the three`s challenge yet but I am sure there are many good shots and am happy to concede that they will be way ahead of mine in quality(I don`t think I ever mentioned that I expected to win anything)..but thanks for your opinion.
The original is much better, IMHO. I think you made a wise decision by not entering (spirit and letter of the rules, et. al.). I respect you immensely for that. :o)
I do like the original shot better Gordon. I wonder how hard it would be to dry the unwanted drops with a paper towel? It is a nice shot.
LOL..I tried that at about 10:00 last night..what a pantomime..I even had a torch (flashlight)with me to try to help the lighting situation, I`m glad the neighbours didn`t see me :)
The trouble was ,I thought about it too late in the day.
Ah well, such is life.
