I've been doing a lot of HDR photos, most of the times just because of the added dynamic range it provides.
I use Photoshop CS4 with the Photomatix plugin, and always shoot RAW.
My question is if I should handle the photo in ACR and then tonemap it, or just leave the default settings in Camera Raw and handle them later?
I use them unprocessed. I have never seen a difference in processing them first, for single-image HDR, and it's a positive disadvantage for multiple-image HDR if you don't get the color parameters identical.

Thanks Robert, I've wondered if ACR does anything destructive to the image, so I've always opened them without processing.
Sorry to go off topic a bit but my new pentax kx does hdr in camera. It takes three shots and combinds them into one hdr image. Would this be legal for challenges?
Not in Basic, even if it's in camera processing.
You can do it in advance though: "combine up to the allowable number of captures either in-camera or in post-processing."

The answer to that, actually, is "no"; ACR makes all its adjustments in a sidecar file that controls the *display* of the image, but doesn't alter the actual RAW data at all.
